Anyone who spends time playing Fortnite competitively is familiar with MrSavage on Twitch. The popular Norweigan streamer has netted nearly half a million dollars in winnings since he began sharing his gameplay with the world and it doesn’t look like he plans on stopping anytime soon.

But MrSavage didn’t turn into a Fortnite sensation overnight or make himself wealthy by playing it safe in the hit Battle Royale PvP.

So how does MrSavage keep an eye on his opponents and turn tight spots into wins? And who is he?

Who is MrSavage?

MrSavage’s real name is Martin Foss Anderson. The internet celebrity and OG Fortnite gunslinger is originally from Norway. He was born on November 12th, 2004. He is known for his incredible skills in the game and engaging commentary and personality. MrSavage has won several major tournaments and has consistently been one of the game’s top esports players.

Anderson rose to fame after winning the EU Solo Showdown in 2018 and has competed in numerous competitions, garnering millions of views and nearly three million followers on Twitch.

In his most recent outing on FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series), where Champion-level players can compete against the best of the best, the Nordmann placed second overall.

MrSavage’s impressive gameplay is one of the reasons he is so popular. He has a distinct play style that distinguishes him from other streamers, and he is frequently capable of performing incredible feats in-game. This includes tricky building maneuvers, pinpoint accuracy with his weapons, and clutch plays that can change the course of a match.

Mr. Savage’s ability to connect with his audience is another reason he’s seen such success on Twitch. He is well-known for being approachable and friendly, and he frequently interacts with his fans during streams by responding to chat messages and answering questions about his gameplay. This has helped him establish a strong community of followers online.

How MrSavage keeps a lookout for swarming attackers

First, we need to give credit where it is due: Anderson is a beast in Fortnite. Martin frequently pulls off impressive wins in matches that seem impossibly weighted against him, a feat that can only be attributed to his dedication to the craft and natural skill.

However, casual gamers can get a competitive edge by using some of his tricks; one of which we think will give Battle Royale players a unique and sneaky advantage – but it requires defying the laws of physics via Edit mode.

What is Edit mode?

In Fortnite, Edit mode is a gameplay function that allows players to modify their building structures while playing. In Edit mode, players can select and manipulate walls, floors, and ramps by adding, removing, or reconstructing them.

Edit mode is a critical aspect of Fortnite gameplay. Edit mode masters can quickly create complex structures that provide cover, allow for better positioning, or even confuse their opponents.

Players can enter Edit mode by pressing the designated edit button, which is mapped to a specific key on their keyboard or controller.

Using edit mode to play peekaboo

Anderson utilizes Edit mode to pull off some very impressive maneuvers, however, his favorite is using the feature to play a game of peekaboo with his opponents.

How to play peekaboo like MrSavage:

  • Construct a six-sided cube in position (this means four walls, a floor, and a roof, not a ceiling).
  • Add stairs to your floor so you can quickly obtain a height advantage and move up and down within your defensive box.
  • Enter Edit mode to modify the roof.
  • Notice that there are now four blue squares available to edit.
  • Select one of the editable tiles but do not confirm your selection (which leaves the tiles in edit mode).
  • Without switching to your primary weapon or pickaxe, climb the stairs and stick your head through the blue tile you’ve selected.
  • You can now watch other players swarm your position without actually modifying your structure (which gives opponents an opening to attack you).

Using this trick allows players to take a peek at enemies without actually modifying the tiles in a way that gives other players an opportunity to strike.

Step into the edit

Now, notice how Anderson moves up into the editing environment to get perspective. Entering Edit mode ensures your structure is still standing without actually creating a vulnerability that your foes can exploit.

That’s it! It’s a simple trick that is very effective when used properly. For example, when you’re surrounded by multiple players or squads and attempting to identify your next move.

We will note, however, that this trick is only really useful in defensive positions. It can be used in the same way if you’re attacking, however, you’ll ultimately find yourself in a defensive posture as you’ll just be drawing attention to yourself. Instead, you should use the “boxed peekaboo” (lol) to maintain protective barriers while you sneak a look at the competition’s movements and offensive positions.

Congrats on your FNCS ranking, MrSavage

Speaking to FNCS hosts after his second-place finish last Saturday, MrSavage says that ultimately success comes down to practice and borrowing moves from the best players online.

“A lot of practice, watching everyone that does good, and um, yea, gotta give credit to our coach,” MrSavage says.

As always, excellent work Martin!
