This just in: The STW Daily News Round Up featuring all the news that’s fit to (digitally) print for Thursday, June 23rd, 2022. What’s happening this week? Dune 2 rounds out casting, Bob’s Burgers Movie, and more!

The Bob’s Burgers Movie Heads to Hulu

After a holiday weekend stint in theaters on Memorial Day, it’s been announced that The Bob’s Burgers Movie will head to streaming on Hulu on July 12th, right in the middle of peak BBQing season.

Writer and directer Loren Bouchard spoke about the show and the movie’s life on Hulu: “We’re so happy that the fans have been able to find us and watch us and binge us as much as they want on Hulu. Our fantasy is that we have to send over a new copy of the Bob’s movie to Hulu because their copy gets all worn out from people watching it so much.”

The film also takes place during summer vacay/BBQ season. According to the film’s logline, “A ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.”

Dune 2 Is Rounding Out Its Cast

After the first film in the Dune saga achieved both popular and critical acclaim (and snagged a slew of Osar noms and wins), it was a no-brainer that Denis Villeneuve and co. would be back for a second installment. Especially since they cut the narrative of Frank Herbert’s original source material right down the middle and left the story of the Atreides clan incomplete for film audiences.

As production on Dune 2 gets closer to a start date, the film is beginning to round out its cast.

Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin are all expected to reprise their roles for the second installment, of course. And joining the vets of the desert will be a few newcomers.

GOAT Florence Pugh has signed on as Princess Irulan, national treasure Christopher Walken is set to play Emperor Shaddam IV, and Elvis himself Austin Butler will make an appearance as House of Harkonnen’s heir Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Joining the big names is beloved French actress Léa Seydoux, best known for her electric performance in Blue Is the Warmest Color. Seydoux can be seen in theaters currently in the David Cronenberg masterpiece Crimes of the Future for which the actress and the film received its fair share of buzz at this year’s Cannes Film Festival run.

In Dune 2, Seydoux will portray the critical ally character Lady Margot Fenring.

While Lady Margot appears early on in Frank Herbert’s Dune, she was not written into Villeneuve’s first feature. As a member of the Bene Gesserit, Lady Margot and her husband, Count Fenring, play a vital role in a storyline with Feyd-Rautha. The actor set to play Count Fenring has yet to be announced.

As Dune: Part 2 is still in casting and pre-production mode, there’s no word yet on a release date.

And also no word yet if pandemic strategies of debuting new releases in theaters and streaming simultaneously will hold up as movie lovers return to the brick and mortar box office.

But given the film still raked in the cash despite a simultaneous release, it’s possible this bad boy could head straight to HBO Max like it’s predecessor.

Lie, Like, and Follow

Hulu dropped the trailer this week for the newest Zoey Deutch vehicle Not Okay in which the amazingly versatile and compelling comedic actress plays a wannabe Insta influencer who takes the artifice that is social media to a whole new level.

Directed by Quinn Shepard, the social media satire follows Deutch’s character Danni Sanders, “an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and—worst of all—no followers, who fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout.”

The film’s synopsis continues: “When a terrifying incident strikes the City of Lights, Danni unwittingly falls into a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She ‘returns’ a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan (Mia Isaac), a school-shooting survivor dedicated to societal change, and scooping up the man of her dreams Colin (Dylan O’Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she always wanted. But it’s only a matter of time before the facade cracks, and she learns the hard way that the Internet loves a takedown.”

Not Okay will begin streaming on Hulu on July 29th.
