Bling Empire: New York cast
Bling Empire: New York is led by Dorothy Wang, a member of the cast from season 2 of Bling Empire and the daughter of self-made millionaire Roger Wang. Having been in shows like Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, Famously Single, Fetch Me a Date, and of course, the original Bling Empire, Dorothy is no stranger to reality television.
Cast members Tina Leung, Lynn Ban, Blake Abbie, Stephen and Deborah Hung, and Richard Chang will also appear alongside Dorothy.
Dorothy Wang, the heart of Bling Empire: New York
Dorothy is hunting for men in Bling Empire: New York season 1, expecting to have more luck in New York than in LA. The teaser also focuses on Tina Leung’s life as a fashion “IT” girl and teases several feuds among the gang. While the Bling Empire spinoff series Bling Empire: New York is an ensemble with a large cast, Wang is clearly at the forefront, and the program is structured around her and her acclimation to New York.
What exactly is Bling Empire: New York about?
The original series tracked the lives of ridiculously rich East and Southeast Asian Americans in Los Angeles, and after a successful season, the show was packed up for the New York Metro.
The series follows wealthy Asian Americans living modern, luxurious, and sensual lives in New York City. There are endless party nights, fashion displays, and shopping opportunities as they flaunt their lavish and wealthy lifestyles.
Is the series interesting?
This series couldn’t have been more fascinating if it had been set anywhere except New York, the city that never sleeps. However, it’s as if the cast didn’t know New York enough to brag about it. They primarily discuss business, money, glamour, dating, and their ideas of fun (New York is just kind of a green screen for the whole saga).
Unfortunately, everything feels done for Instagram likes or the camera and serves no purpose other than to boast and feed egos. Their attempts to influence and provide counsel throughout the episodes made me giggle, and their self-indulgence and entitlement stand out.
Streaming this weekend has given Bling Empire: New York an audience Score of 61.
Is Bling Empire: New York worth watching?
If you relish the type of lifestyle these characters propagate, you’ll enjoy this series. As far as reality shows go, it is repetitious and plodding, that’s true, but it is also entertaining. For some, it will be a mindless download with little real value; for others, another fascinating, addicting, yet self-obsessed drama. The outfit, as well as the vistas and sites in New York, are what make it worth viewing. While there is nothing fresh about BE: NY (these Me, Me, ME! types of reality shows are so popular they’re becoming nostalgic), it’s easy to watch for fans of the genre; neither spectacular nor offensive.
At the end of the day, the folks who make these shows have a job to do, and they do it in Bling Empire: New York.
Just don’t expect something new; nothing’s changed here; the parties, the hunt, and staged drama are alive and well in Netflix’s latest reality program.
