Shrinking 2023 is about how we overcome the disconnect between knowing what we need to do and actually doing it. Jimmy Laird, a therapist struggling with tremendous loss, begins to violate ethical boundaries by telling his patients what he really believes, leading to huge transformations in his and their life.
Jimmy spends his working hours attentively listening to his clients’ concerns and silently hoping that with enough of a nudge, they’ll come up with the answers. But he knows deep down that they won’t.

Shrinking 2023: Is the series a come back for Harrison Ford?
Harrison Ford hasn’t spent a lot of time on the small screen, but it isn’t his only run. He also co-stars with Helen Mirren in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, which returns to Paramount Plus on February 5th.
Segel’s character is a devastated therapist in Shrinking who, disregarding his own obligations and ethics, begins telling his clients precisely what he feels, kicking off major changes in their lives. Ford also plays therapist alongside Segel.
Will Segel be able to manage his mental health by assisting others?
These are the kinds of questions that the new comedy series Shrinking 2023 will try to solve. The ten-episode comedy series follows Segel as a therapist who has decided to give his patients a more direct approach to psychiatric therapy after coping with his own mental health challenges and personal tragedies.
Essentially, Segel’s character is following in the footsteps of Dr. Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal) from Analyze This (1999) and tells his patients his own personal beliefs rather than attempting to apply traditional psychiatric advice. It’s a risky plan with a long list of pros and cons, and only time will tell if his little experiment is sustainable or a complete disaster.

It is simple to overlook that, aside from their professional life of treating patients with severe trauma and mental health concerns, these medical experts are also humans, and they have their own problems, ideas and biases.
