Netflix’s Treason, a new limited series with Charlie Cox (Daredevil, She-Hulk), has received its first batch of reviews and the verdict is in; slick and original.
Collider gave the season a B+, writing “though it very much feels like it is poised to be an ongoing series, Treason works very well as a compact five-episode story […] dare I even say spin-off worthy?”
The Hollywood Reporter, critical of the series’ lack of character development, was still overly positive about Cox and friends’ performances and the potential that a second season has.
“Netflix is calling Treason a “limited series,” but the finale sets up a second season, one that could be more interesting and distinctive than the first. I’m still more interested in finding out what happened with those adorable dead rabbits.”
Netflix’s Treason sets up an alternative path for Cox
The OG Daredevil said he was grateful that Netflix took him back after the streamer lost it’s first superhero hit.
“None of the people I previously worked with were on that show [Netflix’s Treason],” Cox said, “I felt very grateful and thankful that Netflix was still willing to hire me. I had a really, really good experience.”
Cox said he surprised when Kevin Feige called to tell him that they wanted to “bring him into the MCU,” but he doesn’t know what the future looks like beyond the series reboot, Daredevil: Born Again, on Disney+ in 2024.
“If this show next year doesn’t hit the spot, then that might be it. Then it’s back to…” NME says Cox stopped short of finishing his thought.
Given that the MCU is increasingly unpredictable as the franchise struggles with it’s Iron Man question, it’s a relief to see Netflix’s Treason gets the positive reception it has so far. And with phrases like “spin-worthy” already being thrown around, who knows?-Cox could be a very busy actor in the coming years.
Netflix’s Treason gets a projected audience score of 89.5 from us
It’s great to see Cox back to work. The trailer for the series hits all the right notes. The score is perfectly paced and the stakes are clear. It’s not surprising the cast is being praised above all; they certainly look sharp in the trailer.
Cox is a terrific actor and it looks like he’s surrounded by a group that is comfortable at this level, they’re chemistry is great whenever any of them share the screen.
