This week, there were unconfirmed reports that the popular battle royale game would be coming to Amazon’s Luna gaming service, however, so far we’ve seen no evidence other than a screenshot of Fortnite on Luna that has since been removed. So, will we eventually see Fortnite on Luna?

Live streaming on Luna today

Amazon Luna has done an excellent job developing its cloud-gaming service. We’ve spent countless hours working our way through the freebies Luna offers to Prime Members, as well as the offerings included with Amazon Luna+ and Ubisoft+. Wonderful games, incredibly easy setup and live-streaming interface, that’s true. But what has been missing is the competitive play that viewers access Twitch for.

Fortnite on Luna would be a game changer for budget live streamers.

Fortnite on Luna could send cloud-gaming to the moon

Fortnite has become one of the most popular video games in the world. It has attracted millions of players from all over the globe, and it is estimated that over 200 million people have played Fortnite since its launch in 2017. More recent estimates have put the Fortnite user base at around 390 million by the first quarter of 2021.

The game’s success can be attributed to its immersive, cartoon-like graphics, its large selection of weapons and characters, and its battle royale mode which pits 100 players against each other in a fight for survival. Fortnite also offers a range of challenges and events that keep players coming back for more. These factors have helped make Fortnite one of the most popular games on the market today.

In regards to its impact on Twitch, the best numbers available suggest nearly 70 million viewers hop on Twitch to watch streamers play Fortnite every month.

Given that we’ve identified Luna as the most affordable way to enter the live-streaming industry, Fortnite on Luna would be a game-changer for the cloud-gaming platform, to say the least.

However, per the screenshot provided by a Reddit user last week, Fortnite on Luna is still out of reach for anyone playing in the production version of Amazon Luna.

Fortnite on Luna would put more budget streamers in front of audiences

Fortnite has become one of the most popular video games of all time, and Twitch is its unofficial home. Millions of people watch Fortnite on Twitch every day, and there are a few reasons why. The game is highly competitive and entertaining, with players competing against each other in real-time. It also features some of the biggest streamers in the world, who bring their own unique personalities to the game. Finally, Twitch offers a variety of rewards for viewers who watch Fortnite streams, making it an even more attractive option for gamers.

For casual gamers like us, more interested in the “how” rather than the entertainment piece of it, the ability to switch from popular video game consoles like Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch to play Fortnite on Luna with friends would be a huge leap for Amazon.

As of this writing, the only way to stream Fortnite on Twitch is with a PC powerful enough to handle the graphics and transfer requirements, or a gaming console with a capture card.

As of right now, most of the games available on Luna are linear and lack the type of multiplayer capabilities and competitions that viewers enjoy, which limits Luna to fans of particular genres and mission-based experiences.

Needless to say, adding Fortnite on Luna could result in explosive growth for the platform and the ability of thousands, if not millions, of budget streamers getting their shot at live Fortnite competitions on Twitch with friends – without breaking the bank (the Fire Stick Max and Luna controller bundle costs just $100 on Amazon).

We reached out to Amazon Luna for comment on the possibility of Fortnite coming to Luna but have not got a response, like, or retweet to date (lol, jk @AmazonLuna).

Suffice it to say, mum’s the word from Amazon so far, as expected; Fortnite on Luna would be as big an announcement as the technology launching in the first place.

So, if we’re about to see Fortnite on Luna, are you ready to start streaming?

Setting up Amazon Luna and Twitch for live streaming

Live streaming on Amazon Luna is incredibly easy and intuitive. To get started, all that is needed is a Fire Stick Max, a laptop capable of running Amazon Luna in a browser (which can be done from a Mac or Windows PC), and a Twitch account.

We prefer streaming on a Fire Stick Max because it allows us to play the game on our television while the broadcast is run from a computer or mobile phone (yes, you can live stream video games on Twitch with just a Fire Stick and internet browser from almost any device).

To add Luna to your Fire Stick Max and start playing, follow these steps:

  • Go to the My Apps section of the hub (the button has three squares and the + operator)
  • Press down to select Get More Apps
  • Search for Luna
  • Install the app

When you open the Luna app, you’ll be asked if you’d like to activate the service. There are no costs for Luna’s free subscription. Once the app has been activated, you’ll get a quick tour of the service. Next, you’ll be asked to pair a controller. If you’re like us and hesitant to invest in a controller for a platform you’re not sure you’ll even use, not to worry, there’s an app for that on mobile. However, if you’re planning on getting serious about gaming on Amazon Luna, we highly recommend a Luna Controller for under $50 on Amazon.

If you do decide to use Luna’s virtual controller, here’s what it should look like on your phone.

Once you’ve downloaded the Luna app on your Fire Stick and identified what type of controller you’re going to use, you are ready to play, though you’ll need to link your Twitch account to your Amazon account to live-stream. Final words

From our perspective, adding Fortnite on Luna is a no-brainer. The question has likely always been if the streamer could handle the transfer rates required to host a battle royale game mode, as well as whether Epic Games would support it on a cloud-gaming service (which have come and gone, remember Stadia?).

However, if there is any chance that we could see the popular battle royale FPS on Luna in the near future, Amazon can certainly count on us taking advantage of it. The sky’s the limit. Given Amazon Luna and Twitch’s already seamless integration and ease of use, who knows what’s possible if anyone can hop on Twitch and start earning money to play the most popular game on the internet.
