Released in theaters at the tail end of 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home became the second biggest US box office debut of all time. The film also quickly became a fan favorite that revitalized the franchise, and it didn’t do so by playing it safe. There were some risky creative decisions on the part of Marvel execs including adding a bit of the supernatural by way of a risky spell courtesy of Doctor Strange. Strange’s spell should have made earthlings forget Spider-Man’s true identity, but it ended up shattering the multiverse and unleashing hell on earth.
But the film also offered much in the way of the predicable including the return of some major villains and some very welcome cameos, both of which also contributed to audience and critical raves.
Nonetheless, the No Way Home ending created more questions than it answered, leaving Spidey fans wondering what possibly could come next. The theories about the Spiderverse are endless, but here are a few that fans are buzzing about.
Spell On Earth
Doctor Strange’s spell caused a lot of problems in the Spiderverse, and in the chaos there’s one fact that could easily be overlooked: Technically speaking, Doctor Strange’s spell should only have worked on people on earth. That means that all the Avengers including Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, Thor, and the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team might still remember who Spider-Man is because they were not on earth at the time of the spell.
Potential for Crossover of Beloved Characters
A lot of fans thought that Matt Murdock from Daredevil making an appearance at the start of the film was random, but is anything really random in the MCU? Shows like Daredevil have been put on pause while the MCU barrels forward with incredible momentum, but as Charlie Cox confirmed, the character of Daredevil will be returning for the next Spider-Man installment. Which could mean fans get to see another classic TV show character make it to the big screen.
Spider-Man Back in Black?
While the world might’ve forgotten who Peter is, he’s still the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, the super hero next door complete with his own handmade red and blue suit. But with the dark Venom front and center in the post-credits scene of No Way Home, could fans finally see a black Spidey-suited Tom Holland? Only time and the fourth installment will tell!
