This just in: All the streaming news that fit to (digitally) print for Thursday, June 9th, 2022. Ray Liotta in Black Bird and more life for What We Do In The Shadows.

Eternal Life for What We Do In the Shadows

Before the Emmy-nominated vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows has even aired one episode from the upcoming fourth season, FX has already announced that the show will be around for at least two additional seasons. Upon renewing WWDINTS for a fifth and sixth season President of Original Programming at FX Nick Grad said:

“There’s a lot of life left in our favorite vampires from Staten Island, and FX couldn’t be more thrilled to commit to two additional seasons of this phenomenal series.” This is welcome news for fans of the spooky spoof as the show, though spectacular from the beginning, has only just begun to hit its stride when it comes to character development.

Only in Season 3 did the four vampires begin to really explore themselves and seek to achieve something like self-actualization and character growth, and it was an exciting journey to watch. Knowing that there are at least three more seasons for this group of blood and energy suckers to come to terms with their flaws and their humanity leaves fans hopeful that each character’s journey will have time to achieve closure.

WWDINTS Season 4 premieres on FX on July 12th with new episodes available to stream on Hulu the next day.

Apple TV+ Offers a Look Into Ray Liotta’s Final TV Show

Apple TV+ has dropped the trailer for new series Black Bird, a crime thriller featuring one of the last performances by legendary actor Ray Liotta known for his portrayal of real-life gangster Henry Hill in Scorsese’s Goodfellas.

The new Apple series follows Jimmy (Taron Egerton), the son of Ray Liotta’s character, as he plays detective from behind bars to uncover the secrets of a notorious serial killer. It’s written and executive produced by bestselling author Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River). For Lehane, working with Liotta was “the culmination of a lifelong dream,” calling him “the most electric American actor of his generation.”

Black Bird, which was inspired by the true crime memoir In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, premieres on Apple TV+ on July 8.

Mad Men Star to Hamm it Up for Fargo’s Fifth Season

For series creator Noah Hawley’s fifth bloody trip to the Midwest, he’s recruited some serious star wattage including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Juno Temple (fresh from the Ted Lasso glow of success), and Mad Men star Jon Hamm who can currently be seen knocking Tom Cruise down a peg or two in the summer blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.

While the Fargo anthology series takes place in various Midwest locales often taking audiences back to different periods of the 20th century, this go-round will be much more contemporary taking place in 2019. But as is characteristic of Hawley, he’s light on deets beyond the timeframe. The only hints given were Fargo-esque questions: “When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?”

Ooohhhh, cryptic. Another mystery left to be solved? The new season’s release date. Nothing is set in stone (or snow) just yet.
