Maggie, Trigger Point, Longest Night, Gold, Killing Eve, and more, streaming this weekend.

Welcome to the definitive guide of the freshest titles new to streaming this weekend, July 8th, 2022. Whether you’re looking for a full weekend binge or just a little inspiration for movie night, STW has you covered with picks for the best new shows and films being released this weekend across all platforms.

1. Maggie (Hulu)

The Hulu romcom series Maggie follows a 30-ish psychic (Rebecca Rittenhouse) who’s surprisingly good at what she does. So good that she predicts a future for herself she never expected with a new client she just met. Her vision seems like it could become a reality when her new love interest moves in next door. Until, that is, it becomes clear that he’s moving in with his partner.

Maggie may be able to see her future, but her present is a mess. Maggie is the perfect summer binge, ideal for bingeing at the beach, while en route to vacay, or while packing for a getaway. It’s light, effervescent, low-stakes, but with characters developed enough to care about and root for. And the zinging one-liners are A+.

All episodes of Maggie are streaming now on Hulu.

2. Trigger Point (Peacock)

If non-stop explosive action is the preferred summer speed, then Peacock’s new series Trigger Point will have no trouble keeping pace. The British import follows experienced bomb disposal operative Lana Washington as she’s pushed to her breaking point dealing with a series of improvised explosive devices that threaten London during a summer terror campaign.

Under extreme pressure and in search of answers, Lana suspects that the targets on her team are premeditated and must race to discover the bomber’s real identity.

All episodes of Season 1 hit Peacock on July 8th.

3. Longest Night (Netflix)

Another action-packed Euro import hits Netflix on Friday. The Longest Night is a Spanish language thriller series centering around a psychiatric prison where a group of armed men are trying to capture an incarcerated serial killer, but prison’s director won’t just hand over the murderer without a fight.

Set on Christmas Eve at the Monte Baruca Prison, the six episode series follows Prison Director Hugo as he prepares to resist the takeover and a stages one hell of a fight.

All episodes of The Longest Night will be available on Netflix on Friday, July 8th. The series is subtitled.

4. Gold (Hulu)

With two prominent titles making the rounds on streaming currently, HSM alum Zac Efron is putting his dad bod to good use. He stars in Peacock’s Firestarter as the father of young girl with some truly amazing powers. And this weekend the Neighbors star heads to Hulu in the film Gold.

The film follows a drifter (Efron) in the not-too-distant future as he travels through the desert in search of, what else, gold. And gold he finds. He discovers the largest gold nugget known to man. But it’s no cause for celebration as the prospector must guard it from thieves and nature, creating for one taut thriller as Efron fights to stay alive long enough to cash in on his treasure.

Gold begins streaming on Hulu on Saturday, July 9th.

5. Killing Eve, Season 4 (Hulu)

The girls are back in town again! After three seasons of assassinations and mad “will they or won’t they” vibes, Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are back as Security Operative Eve and the villainous Villanelle for a fourth and final season.

The final season premiered back in February on BBC America and is available on AMC+, but its Hulu premiere on July 10th will be its first time hitting streaming proper. So while cable subscribers may know how the ballad of Eve and Villanelle plays out, for cord-cutters, this is the first opportunity to catch up.

Oh plays Eve Polastri, a Canadian-British security officer who is in hot pursuit of a female serial assassin known as Villanelle. As the two occasionally cross paths throughout the series, Eve develops a bit of an obsession with the murderer. And the feeling is mutual? Villanelle definitely has a soft spot for the Spy Who Loves Her.

As the series–based on the series of Villanelle novels by Luke Jennings and created by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge–comes to a close, fans go into the finale wondering: Will this odd couple end up together? Or will they kill each other?

Knowing these two, it could go either way.

All episodes of Killing Eve will be available for streaming on Hulu on July 10th.
