Birds of a Feather Flock to HBO Max Together

After transitioning from Netflix to Adult Swim/HBO Max, the animated dram-com Tuca & Bertie is back for a third season. From creator Lisa Hanawalt, one of the minds behind Bojack Horseman, the show tells the stories of the titular best bird friends played by Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish. The show follows the pair as well as Bertie’s boyfriend Sterling as they tackle real-life millennial concerns and navigate relationships and their own friendship.

Adult Swim has released a trailer for the new season, and it looks like the bright and beautiful animation will be a backdrop for some darker, grittier topics this go-round. The trailer touches on how the pair deal with mortality, and Hanawalt confirms the season will explore new territory.

“I can’t wait for everyone to catch up on all the latest calamity and soul-searching from these birds,” Hanawalt said in a statement. “Season three is packed with romance, chronic pain, ambition, large ducks, lustful trees, and hungry snakes!”

Season three of Tuca & Bertie premieres on July 10 on Adult Swim. Episodes will be streaming the next day on HBO Max, which is also making the second season available on June 24.

First Look: Ryan Gosling All Dolled Up

Production on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is in full swing, and Warner Brothers has the pics to prove it. Following production stills from a few weeks ago showing Margot Robbie as the iconic doll brought to life, Warner Brothers has finally quenched the internet’s thirst and released stills of Ryan Gosling as Ken.

Ryan Gosling and Robbie aren’t the only A-listers getting all dolled up. Reports from production indicate that the film will feature a variety of dolls, with Issa Rae and Hari Nef portraying more Barbies and Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa showing up as additional Kens.

On top of that, seemingly the entirety of IMDb is getting a credit here including Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Rhea Perlman, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Emerald Fennell. Saoirse Ronan, Nicola Coughlan, and Dua Lipa are rumored to appear with Ryan Gosling.

Barbie with Ryan Gosling is set to hit theaters in July 2023 with no official word on where it will be streaming, though there are indications it will hit Netflix after a run in theaters.

And The Winner Is…

One network show and a ton of streamers. The nominations for the 38th annual Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards were announced this week, and streaming exclusives dominated the action, with one notable exception.

Broadcast fave ABC’s Abbott Elementary schooled the competition, coming in with the most nods of any show, five in total for Best Comedy Series, Best New Series, and Program of the Year as well as series stars Quinta Brunson and Janelle James both being recognized in the Individual Achievement in Comedy category.

Streamers dominated the top slots otherwise including other freshman series like Apple TV+’s Severance (four nods) Showtime’s Yellowjackets (four nods), Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building (three nods) and Netflix’s Squid Game (three nods).
