Netflix’s Resident Evil gets lukewarm reception online
In what appears to be a collective yawn online, Netflix’s newest take on the Resident Evil yarn went from buzzworthy to punchline after the streamer dropped all 8 episodes Thursday.
Critics haven’t been kind to the series either.
Korey Coleman, of Double Toasted, said “This is Resident Evil if it was made by The CW. A lot of this show is unrecognizable from the video game.”
And Austen Goslin, of Polygon, added that the series “spends most of its time desperate to justify its own existence in the Resident Evil Universe, and none of the building a new story that’s worth caring about.”
Oof.
As of this writing, the Average Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes sat at a lowly 31% (with a Tomatometer score of 59%).
This is definitely disappointing given the all-star cast and investment Netflix put into the series.
Starring Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nunez, and the incredible Lance Reddick, Resident Evil is set in the years 2022 and 2036 and follows Albert Wesker and his family as they adapt to life in New Raccoon City and a future in which only 300 million human beings still exist as refugees surrounded by 6 billion cannibal mutants infected by the Umbrella Corporation’s zombie spawning disease.
Ryan Gosling’s Ken wouldn’t make TLC’s cut as the character goes full Scrub in Barbie
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight promoting his newest film The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling says that Ken will have “no money, no job, no car, and no house” in Barbie.
“That Ken life is even harder than The Gray Man life,” Gosling says, “he’s going through some stuff.”
Sounds rough.
But Gosling believes viewers will be pleased with his take on Ken overall.
“I can’t wait for people to see the film. That’s all I can say, otherwise Mattel will come in and box me up.”
Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, and Will Ferrell as an unnamed CEO of a toy company, Barbie is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2023 by Warner Brothers Pictures.
