Black Panther: Wakanda Forever nets over 170 million views in the first 24 hours
Marvel fans have waited patiently since the unfortunate and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman for news about how Disney would move on from the late actor’s iconic T’Challa, and Marvel delivered this week.
In our first look at the world of Wakanda since Endgame, we learn that the antagonist will in fact be the long-rumored Namor The Submariner, who’s been teased in the MCU on several occasions but never brought to the big screen.
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we’ll see a slightly different take on Namor, which may divide some fans. Taking inspiration from Meso-American cultures, the MCU’s Namor (Tenoch Huerta, Narcos: Mexico) appears to rule an Atlantis based in the Central/Southern American region with set pieces giving off pretty strong Aztec vibes.
Some writers have argued this is a bit strange given Marvel Comic’s Atlantis is located in the Atlantic, between North America and Europe, but the choice actually makes a lot of sense in this situation and retains the aesthetic that Ryan Coogler has created in Wakanda.
What is Namor’s motivation for harassing Wakanda? It’s hard to say, but a leak from MovieWeb suggests it could be Vibranium related.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out the trailer, better late than never.
It’s a pretty emotional teaser, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the passing of T’Challa, but there’s a lot to be excited about this November.
Paul Sorvino passes
On Monday it was reported that Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas) had passed at the age of 83. This comes following the deaths of Fred Ward, Ray Liotta, and Frank Vincent, all iconic actors and masters of their craft (the latter two being co-stars with Paul Sorvino in Goodfellas).
Paul Sorvino was a multi-talented triple-threat in Hollywood who worked as an actor, opera-singer, businessman, writer, and sculptor over a career that spanned nearly 7 decades. Paul Sorvino passed on July 25, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, and is survived by his wife Dee Dee Benkie and three children.
