Amazon FreeVee is a free, ad-supported streaming service formerly known as IMDB TV that offers premium content at no cost to users – no Amazon Prime membership required. The streamer offers thousands of free titles and has even begun building up original IP with FreeVee Originals like Sprung and Top Class.

Let’s face it: Escaping subscription hell was once just a dream. Today, dozens (if not hundreds) of free streaming services are available to viewers across the globe. But all free streaming services are not created equal. From the advertising experience to loading speed, the free streaming industry is ripe with new entries that seem to fall short of becoming a real competitor to paid OTTs.

Launched in 2022, however, Amazon FreeVee has quickly risen to the top of the list of free streaming services. With titles like Deadpool and FreeVee Originals like Bosch, the streamer has proven (in short order) that it has what it takes to be the number one service among ad-supported streamers.

But does Amazon FreeVee have what it takes to replace giants like Netflix? Could it cannibalize Prime TV? Or is it on a path to becoming the best free streaming service available?

If anyone can build a robust service that gives users a premium experience while implementing an ad-supported business model, it’s Amazon.

Amazon FreeVee content

FreeVee has great movies. And while the selection is limited, FreeVee is different than other free streaming sites because it invests primarily in newer titles rather than packing the library with inexpensive licensed content that most viewers skip.

For example, as of this writing, titles like Post Malone: Runaway, Love Accidentally, Troppo, 1917, Sausage Party, The Hunt, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and more were available at no cost.

Moreover, FreeVee rotates titles regularly, so there is always something fresh for regular viewers.

Amazon account requirement

Unlike most free websites that do not require sign-up or login, Amazon FreeVee requires users to sign in using an Amazon account. If you do not have an Amazon account, you can create one for free. FreeVee does not require an Amazon Prime membership.

And while this may be an irritating step, there are some pretty incredible benefits for viewers. For one, signing into your Amazon account to use FreeVee allows you to create watch lists and build a viewing history that Amazon remembers, so FreeVee’s recommendation engine can quickly begin identifying the type of content you’re interested in watching. Second, because Amazon owns it, your account allows you to watch FreeVee with friends via the Amazon Watch Party. This is great for viewing content with friends worldwide, whether they have Prime TV accounts or not.

Ad annoyance

Of course, all good things come with a cost, and FreeVee is no exception. Given FreeVee’s extensive collection of new titles, the site has a substantial advertising program to fund the initiative.

And while some viewers may find these ads intrusive, the service does a great job populating advertisements that are relevant to you – in other words, ads that are generated based on information available about your shopping or browsing history.

Geo-restriction

Unfortunately, FreeVee is not available globally. Users can only access this website from within the United States. This is one of the most significant drawbacks of FreeVee.

VPN compatibility

Since FreeVee has geo-locks in place, users might consider using a VPN to access the website. However, to make matters worse, FreeVee does not support standard VPN connections. Users can use a VPN only if it has multi-tunnel support.

Multi-platform support

Users can conveniently access FreeVee from an exhaustive selection of devices and platforms, including Fire TV, Prime Video, Echo Show, Android TV, Apple TV, Google TV, LG, PS4, PS5, Xbox, Samsung, Roku, and Infinity stream boxes. Simply put, the service is available and supported on almost every device type in the US.

Layout and design

The layout and design of Amazon FreeVee is very similar to Prime TV. Given the enormous resources available to Amazon, viewers can bet on a clean, organized, and robust design and experience.

Amazon FreeVee Mobile Application

Pros

  • Swift interface
  • Legit website
  • IMDB insights available with each title
  • Fresh titles and originals

Cons

  • Limited library
  • Geo-restricted
  • Not VPN compatible

Summary

Amazon FreeVee is an excellent service to stream free content. However, for international viewers, the cons outweigh the pros. The website is geo-restricted and has a very limited library (albeit fresher than most free services).

But for US-based users, Amazon FreeVee may be one of the best up-and-coming free streaming services available. The library is fresh, the experience is smooth, and the service is supported on so many devices it’s almost impossible that any viewer in the states can’t access it.
