Welcome to your guide to the hot and fresh titles new to streaming for the weekend of May 27th, 2022. Whether you’re looking for a full weekend binge or just a little inspiration for movie night, STW has you covered with our picks of the best new shows and films being released across all platforms streaming this weekend. Here are the hottest titles streaming this weekend.

1. Stranger Things (Netflix)

It really has been a long time, and with great delay comes great expectations. The last time fans were in Hawkins, Indiana was pre-pandemic, and though only three years ago, it feels like about four lifetimes ago that we saw the Hawkins Scooby gang traipsing through the new town mall.

After fans spent a couple of years grousing all over the internet about the delay and voicing concern about the young actors aging out of their pre-teen parts, Stranger Things Day finally is upon us!

But not so fast! Friday’s release of Season 4 only contains half of the new episodes. Fans will have to wait until July to take in all of Season 4’s glory.

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+)

ST4 isn’t the only big franchise new release in town this weekend. Clearly, both Disney and Netflix are banking hard on a lot of folks skipping the beach this Memorial Day Weekend to stay indoors and binge away. And the return of the beloved Scottish actor Ewan McGregor to the titular role of Obi-Wan Kenboi may do just that.

This six-episode series follows the Obi-Wan character at a time in the Star Wars timeline when Anakin has already become Darth Vader and Obi-Wan spends his time watching over a young Luke Skywalker on Tattooine. May the force be with him.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi drop on May 27th with another on June 1st.

3. Pistol (Hulu)

With Oscar-winning Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle at the helm, this is a pretty big release in its own right capable of giving Disney and Netflix a run for their money. With Game of Thrones fan favorite Maisie Williams starring, it’s possible that Pistol does pull over some of same viewers as ST and Obi-Wan.

This miniseries follows the origins of OG anarchist rockers the Sex Pistols and the genre of punk music itself, a movement that would evolve to forever alter the soundscape of popular music and be the dominant force in shaping culture and political ideologies from the late 1970’s up until this very moment. All episodes streaming May 31st.

4. Fire Island (Hulu)

Everyone’s favorite member of SNL: The New Class, Bowen Yang, finally gets his own starring vehicle in this summer vacation movie perfect for a date night in. After showing off his lip syncing abilities in both Girls 5 Eva and The Other Two, as well as brilliantly supporting Awkwafina in Nora From Queens, Bowen heads to the titular NYC beach known for being a summer vacay go-to for the LGBTQ community. Throw in a healthy amount of cheap rose, some epic millennial pop culture references, and a supporting turn from the iconic Margaret Cho and you’ve got yourself a must-see summer streamer. Premieres June 3rd.

5. Shoresy (Hulu)

This spin-off of the amazingly quotable cult Canadian hit Letterkenny will likely have fans giving their balls a tug as brash sniper Shoresy leaves the Letterkenny Irish local hockey team behind for bigger and better things in the AAA league. Previously known mostly for bedding the mothers of his teammates and doing handstands in the shower, the foul-mouthed Shoresy (played by Jared Keeso who also portrays Wayne on Letterkenny) now leaves all the sexcapades and tomfoolery behind to get serious about one thing: Winning.

Well, pitter patter, let’s get at ‘er. All episodes of Shoresy Season 1 stream on May 27th.
