In a Truth Social post this week, former president Donald Trump suggested he may be better off flying far, far, far away to be with Putin, an old ally of his dating back to the 2016 election.
“I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a ‘flight’ risk – I’d fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again,” Trump said, “Would I be able to take my very ‘understated’ airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, I’d be much better off flying commercial – I’m sure nobody would recognize me!”
More indictments coming for Trump
The former president is facing not one, not two, but potentially four indictments across the country for his alleged role in the 2020 election misinformation campaign, his attempted overthrow of the US government, and his handling of classified information after leaving office.
And that’s just what we know about. Last year there were numerous reports that Trump had directed the FBI to influence his opponents with made-up investigations and we still have no word on the hush money case that has been ongoing for several years now.
The question is: how long can this go on?
Trump has already advised that he’d be skipping the Republican debate tonight, which is streaming for free on FoxNews.com, electing to partner with Tucker Carlson on their own bit of counterprogramming in an exclusive interview on X (formerly Twitter).
But again, how long can this go on?
Someone apparently advised Trump that stiffing his attorneys isn’t wise when 19 coconspirators are facing criminal charges in Georgia, including former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, so he has agreed (likely reluctantly) to host a fundraiser to supplement legal funding for America’s Mayor in early September at $100,000 a plate – though how much of that will make it to Rudy’s defense fund remains to be seen.
In any case, while it is highly unlikely that Trump would or could flee to Russia at this point, the DA in Georgia isn’t taking any chances. With his bail set at $200,000, Trump is scheduled to face arrest and arraingment on Thursday, just hours after the first Republican party debate.
And while Trump isnt’ planning on using the platform to suck all the air out of the room with relentless insults and an onslaught of misinformation, there are now rumors that his son, Trump Jr. is planning to attend in his stead. However, it isn’t clear if that means he’ll be on stage as a surrogate for his father or waving a #1 flag from the first row of the audience, so it should be interesting to stream tonight. Fox hasn’t acknowledged what Jr.’s role would be, likely maintaining suspense for as long as possible.
Regardless, it should be an interesting stream tonight, stay tuned.
